Topical Note (August 06): Recent national media coverage has focussed on a rise in ipod and mp3 thefts in which white headphones are targetted. As a result of these national figures & the nature of the Walk Eastside tours, Walk Eastsiders are urged to exercise the same caution being advised nationally by police.

St Pauls

St Pauls is a vibrant neighbourhood with a strong community identity. Home to the UK’s second largest carnival it is rich in culture and has a strong reputation for music and dance. Pockets of green space are dotted throughout the area from the historic Portland Square to St Agnes Park, creating a relaxed feel in summer time. Buy watermelon or jerk chicken from the side of the road and soak up the unique atmosphere!

Stokes Croft

Stokes Croft is one of the main gateways to the city. A bustling arterial route, it is a hotbed of DIY culture and underground music. A walk along the street takes you past a host of independent retailers selling tapas and cocktails, delicious pies, live music venues, clubs, pubs, cafes, a gallery and an art house cinema. Not always immediately obvious it is well worth exploring and will offer up some interesting treats!

Montpelier

Montpelier is known as the ‘bohemian quarter’ of Eastside. Vintage clothing emporiums nestle alongside alternative living and organic shops, Italian delis and independent cafes and restaurants. It has a relaxed and friendly feel to its winding colourful streets and people are quick to offer a smile and a hello. A place to relax, unwind and take life easy!

St Werburghs

St Werburghs is a green oasis in the centre of the city. Take a stroll through the neighbourhood and you’ll forget you’re in the city at all! Narrow Ways Hill offers a beautiful vantage point for city-wide viewing and picnics in summer, damsons hang from fruit trees in the autumn and the city farm, embedded in a massive vale of allotments is home to a wide variety of farm animals, tended by friendly and informative staff.

Easton

Easton is home to one of the most diverse communities in the inner city. Temples, mosques and churches share the streets and you can enjoy authentic food from around the world at every turn! The area is known as the ‘Street Party Capital of the UK’ for its summer activities which culminate in August with the annual St Marks Road Street Party – a family friendly celebration of cultural diversity that sees thousands of residents and visitors dancing together in the streets!

Redfield

Redfield is a place where the pace of life is gentle and peaceful. Traditional family-run greengrocers share the streets with Jamaican cafes and people take the time to say their hellos.
